TEHRAN – Recent excavations at the Milmiluneh site, Situated in Markazi province, have unearthed a tapestry of pottery spanning from the Sassanid to Safavid periods, shedding new light on the site’s historical significance.

The dig has revealed pottery fragments from various historical periods, including Sassanid, Seljuk, Islamic, and Safavid, according to a local official.

The primary goal of the excavations, Mahmood Moradi-Naraqi further elaborated, is to understand the usage and chronological development of the site. The work, which will continue for another month, has already unearthed valuable ceramic artifacts dating back to diverse periods, he outlined.

The director-general noted that the findings from these excavations underscore the historical importance of the Milmiluneh site and highlight the need for continued archaeological focus and study.

He further highlighted that the site, located in the city of Nimvar within the historical city of Mahallat, has seen collaboration with local landowners and residents. 

“So far, nine trial trenches measuring 1x2 meters have been opened, yielding significant archaeological evidence from the Sassanid, Seljuk, Islamic, and Safavid periods,” Moradi-Naraqi brought to light.
